Initiative Petition 28 is Wrong for Oregon

Proponents of IP 28: People for the Elimination of Animal Cruelty Exemptions (PEACE) Act are aiming to make the 2026 November ballot and ask YOU if killing and injuring animals in Oregon should be illegal.

This proposal would change the animal abuse statutes to criminalize hunting, fishing, trapping, killing and injury of animals for food, education, and research purposes, wildlife management practices, and even trapping mice and vermin. It would also classify breeding practices to include domestic pets, livestock, and equine, as sexual assault.

The passage of IP 28 would create a “no kill or harm” sanctuary state forcing Oregonians to a vegan lifestyle or to have their meat and dairy shipped in from other states, making us dependent on the national food network.
